Event description

Description

The meeting will provide an opportunity to review current practice in Barrett’s oesophagus surveillance, consider the new EQUIP recommendations for upper GI endoscopy and identify the best strategies for north London to take a national lead in quality improvement.

Although guidelines for surveillance of Barrett’s oesophagus and quality standards have been produced by the British Society of Gastroenterology there is a disparity in clinical practice. This scoping meeting aims to drive forward the national agenda whilst also mapping out how to improve services locally.

The meeting with be chaired by Professor Laurence Lovat (UCLH) and is supported by the UCLH Cancer Collaborative that is part of the national Cancer Vanguard. Speakers include Dr Andrew Veitch who led the development of the Quality standards in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy: a position statement of the BSG and AUGIS document. The Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG) who is also supporting the event and the National Endoscopy Database (NED) will be represented.

The invitation to attend this event is open to any endoscopists who participates in Barrett’s oesophagus surveillance and their nominated specialist registrar deputies together with endoscopy managers and other stakeholders involved in endoscopy service delivery.
