If you work in a Local Authority Social Care Team and are directly managing and supervising Social Workers and/or Occupational Therapists this event is for you. It will showcase how some Councils and Teams are changing their supervision culture and how they have already improved practice. It will provide practical tools to support your thinking around supervision. It will allow you to learn from others about what they do, what works well and to hear about models of supervision. It will also create a discussion about the support managers need locally and nationally around this key issue.
The benefits of developing a positive supervision culture in the social services workforce are widely recognised as are the challenges of delivering effective supervision. Regular and effective supervision is critical in supporting effective and reflective practice. It is also crucial in supporting individuals in the challenging work that they do. Research demonstrates that regular and effective supervision is associated with enhanced skills, improved resilience, reduced burn out, increased staff retention, improved caseload management and better decision making as well as job satisfaction and organisational commitment.
