Improvised film genres - narrative improv
Event Information
About this Event
In the first part of the class we will focus on types of character, storytelling techniques, exercises and games, film and narrative structures, the hero's journey, genres conventions and tropes.
In the second part of the lesson we will improvise at least one 30-45 minute long narrative long form set from beginning to end.
Previous classes have included genres like: Film noir, horror, fantasy, science fiction, comedy, murder mystery, western, among others.
Monday 8th of March the genre will be: Sitcoms.
We will focus on how to create characters that are funny and how to play them in a sitcom. Creating conflict that is both fun to play and funny to watch.
We will also work on how to move the story/plot forward by asking questions like: What's the worst thing that could happen to these characters? How can we make it worse? If this is true then what else is true?
We will also look at how to create more than one plot in a sitcom.
Some previous acting or improv experience is required.
