The facilitator for this workshop is: David Garlovsky, BSc, MSc, Certificate in Social Phenomenology

David met Gene in Chicago in 1970 at CHANGES, a ‘peer counselling community’ where no one was denied entry. Everyone learned empathetic listening and experiential focusing skills sharing equal time as ‘helper’ and ‘helpee’

Progremme for the workshop:

1. Discussion about the CHANGES Listening/Focusing Community of Chicago where David first met Gene in 1970. The Changes Community evolved into a ‘peer counselling community’ where everyone learned Empathetic Listening & Experiential Focusing skills sharing equal time as ‘helper’ and ‘helpee’.

2 Discussion about Gene’s basic notion that something that is vague, unclear and bodily felt can “open into a whole field of intricate detail”. For the basis of creativity, emotional healing and new responses when one is in relation to another.

3. Session activities in small groups (3-4 people) to gain knowledge and skills in learning about

  • Empathetic Listening & Experiential Focusing

  • How to positively attend to emotive feelings for use in personal and professional life such as, therapy, teaching, decision making, creative writing and conflict resolution.
