About this Event

Departure Lounge supported by Revoluton Arts Digital Services*

Join us for this special online event featuring artist Idit Elia Nathan in conversation with curator Natalie Pace.

Idit will introduce her project ‘Draw Me a Home’ which is being presented online and in the windows at the Departure Lounge gallery, Bute Street, Luton from Monday 13 July 2020.

Idit will also talk about her art practice, share her experiences of working in Luton and discuss the artworks she will present both online and in the windows at Departure Lounge.

About ‘Draw Me a Home’

Based on Luton’s rich history of migration, Idit Elia Nathan’s ‘Draw Me a Home’ explores ideas of home, belonging, movement and transformation.

Idit’s long-standing interest in notions of ‘home’ is rooted in first-hand experience of her family’s own migration.

Coinciding with the COVID-19 outbreak the project was developed online through a series of provocations and questions on the project’s social media channels as self-isolation raised new questions, offering new understandings of the idea of ‘home’.

You can join the ongoing conversation @drawmeahome on the project’s Facebook page, Instagram channel and on Twitter.

An edited selection of responses is available as part of the Draw Me a Home Journal.

Draw Me a Home is generously funded by Arts Council England. It is organised by Departure Lounge and is delivered in partnership with The Culture Trust, Luton.

Artist bio

Idit's work draws on a wide variety of traditions and methods; it is participatory, collaborative and theatrical. She collaborates with artists, curators and diverse communities to develop often site-specific interventions and artworks. These include interactive installations, live events, games, audiovisual works, playful walks and artists’ books amongst others.

Idit often uses play as a productively provocative space in which the participant is challenged to confront their accepted understandings. Using optics, scale and perspective in specific processes and settings, participants respond to contemporary dilemmas of identity both as actors with free will and actors in a historical context.

Idit's work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private and public collections.

Departure Lounge Contemporary Art was established in Luton in 2010.
