Description

Do we exist in time or does time exist in us?

“To find out, we embark on a journey out of time with Carlo Rovelli, who knows how to speak to his readers' minds without ever overlooking their hearts” – Corriere della Sera

KCL's Maxwell Society and Italian Society are proud to invite you to "A conversation with Carlo Rovelli" in which one of our own professors will interview the renowned author and physicist about his research and his new book.

In the book, The Order of Time, Rovelli describes how time is a thing with differing layers; from the fundamental level where it disappears, up through the mechanistic, thermodynamic, biological systems which impose their different orders, to the illusory, emotional, human experience of time. Rethinking our notion of time as a series of interrelated layers, rather than as fixed moments or objects in time, is to take the reader into one of the liveliest debates in science today about the deep nature of our world and our place in it.

Carlo Rovelli is an Italian physicist who has spent a life time working on the nature of space and time and the foundations of quantum theory. He is one of the founders of the theory of Loop Quantum Gravity. Rovelli has conducted research in Italy, the United States, and currently in France, where he directs the Quantum Gravity Research Group of the Aix-Marseille University. He is a member of the Institut Universitaire de France, Honorary Professor of the Normal Beijing University and has received Honoris Causa degree from the University of San Martin in Buenos Aires. His popular science books include "Seven Brief Lesson of Physics" which has been translated into more than 40 languages and sold over a million copies worldwide, and most recently "The Order of Time", on the nature of time.
