About this event

Join us in celebrating 200 years since the first journey on the Stockton Darlington railway!

The Stockton & Darlington Railway is the railway that got the world on track, and in 2025 it celebrates its 200th anniversary.

Its iconic steam engine, Locomotion No 1, made its inaugural journey on September 27, 1825, and set in motion a transport revolution that changed both Darlington and the globe.

Authors Chris Lloyd and Caroline Hardie will be discussing the impact the railway had on our town and its history. Their recent publications, 'Stockton Darlington 200' and 'The Stockton and Darlington Railway 1825-2025', explore this history and place Darlington at the heart of an international revolution of steam. Both authors' publications will be on sale on the evening, with the opportunity for customers to have their copies signed after the talk.Buy tickets either at the link below or in store!
