OLD TEXTS, NEWS QUESTIONS

For over thirty years, the Prolope group has been producing the scholarly edition of Lope de Vega's complete plays. During this time, it has become a world reference in its field and has witnessed (and encouraged) the transformation of interpretive paradigms regarding the author, his time, and his posterity. The work of textual restoration, seemingly conservative, is not incompatible with new perspectives on Golden Age theater (including the growing attention to the Afrodiaspora), which are essential to renewing the field of study, showing new perspectives of study, and revealing which questions are fundamental to our present. The talk will highlight these aspects.

In conversation with Duncan Wheeler, Professor of Spanish Studies at the University of Leeds.

He has produced many scholarly editions of works from the Spanish Golden Age, particularly Lope de Vega's plays. He has been a prominent contributor to successive Instituto Cervantes' editions of Don Quixote, and has published his own edition of the cervantine novel. VIEJOS TEXTOS Y NUEVAS PREGUNTAS
