Description

2018 marks 100 years since Parliament passed a law which allowed the first women, and all men, to vote for the first time. In this talk, Hilary McCollum will highlight the key role of lesbians and bi women in the fight for women’s citizenship including leading figures such as Christabel Pankhurst, Annie Kenney and Rachel Barrett.

Hilary McCollum is a feminist writer and campaigner. She has been researching the involvement of lesbians within the suffragette movement for more than five years and has spoken on the subject at events in Liverpool, Manchester, London, Brighton and Vienna. Her award-winning debut novel, Golddigger, was published in 2015 and her second novel, Wild, set within the British suffragette movement, will be published later this year. She has also written three verbatim plays about LGBT lives and a lesbian pirate play about religious fundamentalism.
