In conversation with Laura Bates - Men Who Hate Women: From incels to pickup artists, the truth about extreme misogyny

About this Event

The race for Gender Equality: An Institute of Gender Studies and Diversity Festival collaboration: In conversation with Laura Bates - Men Who Hate Women: From incels to pickup artists, the truth about extreme misogyny and how it affects us all.

About the event: We don’t often repeat events in the Diversity Festival, however for this amazing speaker we had to make an exception! Those who attended our Everyday Sexism event with Laura Bates in 2018 will definitely want to come back to hear more from her on her new book.

Our ‘In conversation’ events with Professor Emma Rees, Director of the Institute of Gender Studies have become a popular Festival staple and this is one not to be missed. Emma will explore the themes of Laura’s new book, with a focus on political power and particularly exploring the close intersection between extreme misogyny and racism, white supremacy and other forms of extremism.

Who the event is aimed at: Every year, Festival feedback suggests there should be a feminism event for men, well this is it! Parents and teachers may be particularly interested to consider the messages their children may receive via social media and how we can counter this; academic staff can learn the behaviours they need to look out for in their classes, however everyone will learn something from this event with such an impassioned speaker and author.

The meeting link to attend this event will be sent in advance to all those booked on.
