In conversation with Marcelina Amelia

Overview

An intimate night with Marcelina Amelia: documentary premiere, artist talk, book launch and cocktails inspired by Sunchild Moonchild.

Join us at Helm Gallery from 6.30 pm on Wednesday, 17th December, for an intimate evening devoted to the world of artist Marcelina Amelia, as we premiere a new short documentary created around her solo exhibition, Sun Child Moon Child, currently being exhibited at Helm.

The screening offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at Marcelina’s practice: her private studio rituals, the emotional terrain of early motherhood, and the way her Polish Catholic heritage has quietly re-emerged to shape her most personal work to date.

Following the screening, Helm Gallery’s Creative Director, Becky Bick, will host an in-depth conversation with Marcelina, opening up space to explore the themes raised in the film.

During our talk we will look at the deep transformation that arrived with becoming a mother, how it reshaped her sense of self, her creative intuition, and the symbolic language that threads through her paintings and mixed-media works.

Guests will also have the chance to meet Marcelina during a relaxed book signing afterwards. Live on the night, Marcelina will be signing and personalising sold copies of MAMALIA, her self-published edition, with unique drawings in each sold copy.

Throughout the evening, visitors are invited to enjoy a selection of cocktails inspired by the colours, mood and celestial symbolism of Sun Child Moon Child. One of the cocktails is based around Mamalia, and the other, Ocean Child, is based around the Polish Christmas Carp tradition and memories of her childhood.

It’s an opportunity to slow down, settle into the atmosphere of the gallery surrounded by Marcelina’s work. Perfect for anyone who loves art, storytelling and creative transformation, this event offers a rare chance to connect not just with the artwork, but with the artist herself.

We look forward to seeing you there.
