In Conversation with the Rt Hon Diane Abbott MP
Tue 25 April 2017, 18:00 – 20:30 BST
Update: Join us on the 25th April for a Conversation with the Rt Hon Diane Abbott MP
Diane Abbott is currently the Shadow Home Secretary. She was first elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hackney North and Stoke Newington at the 1987 general election, becoming the first black woman to have a seat in the House of Commons.Throughout the duration of her career, Diane has been vocal on a range of important issues from race equality to police brutality to the Stephen Lawrence case.
This event, chaired by London Young Labour’s Communications Officer Saranya Kogulathas, will focus on Diane's background and how she came into politics in a racially charged Britain as a young black woman, and the historic moment when she became the first ever black female MP, as well as the extensive work she has since done as a Member of Parliament.
We hope you can join us what is set to be an exciting event.
