About this Event

Join us for a unique event bringing together two generations of Chinese writers based in Britain speaking about the breadth and depth of the Chinese diasporic experience in the contemporary world. Through her incisive style and ironic candour, Xinran has become a definitive Chinese voice in Britain today as she continues to explore the place of China and Chineseness in the collective British imagination through her creative and journalistic work. Xin Ran is joined by Kit Fan, an award-winning Hong Kong-born poet, novelist and critic who will be discussing his exhilarating debut novel, Diamond Hill, which is set in the last shanty town of Hong Kong before its 1997 handover to China.

This event is co-hosted by the British Chinese Studies Network, a collaboration between the University of Liverpool’s English Department and the Open University.
