In Limbo (WIP)
Overview
In Limbo: A Work in Progress
Sophie is dead. Probably. She thinks. How could the happiest time of her life turn to this? A play about the darkest sides of motherhood, In Limbo follows Connor and Sophie as they joyfully prepare for the arrival of their baby - and the reality of early parenthood and postpartum depression.
About
Hello there,
My name is Judi Amato, and I am a playwright and theatre-maker based in York.
In 2023, I started working on a play called "In Limbo", which follows a young couple across two timelines as they prepare for the arrival of their longed-for baby and later deal with the reality of postpartum depression and psychosis. Having been joined by a small but mighty team in the last few months, we are now looking to bring this piece to audiences while ensuring it offers a well-rounded and ethical portrayal of postpartum depression. To ensure this is the case, we will be holding a rehearsed reading as part of the Aesthetica Fringe, followed by a guided feedback session and discussion.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience of postpartum depression and might be willing to share their opinions and experiences as part of the guided discussion. However, this is an open event and everyone with an interest in theatre and new writing is welcome.
Please note that due to the themes discussed, we don't recommend this performance for kids under 15 years of age.
This is a free event, but donations are welcome if you wish to support the team bringing "In Limbo" even further.
The event will take place in the Kerrigan Room at York Theatre Royal.
