IN PERSON Feeding Your Baby class

Overview
To support you to recognise the importance of getting feeding started and the early relationship for the health and wellbeing of your baby.
In person feeding class for those having their baby with Buckinghamshire NHS Trust. Led by the Infant Feeding Team held at Hampden Way Family Centre, High Wycombe HP13 7TJ. You are welcome to bring someone with you to the class. They DO NOT need their own ticket.
The class will:
- Support you to recognise the importance of breastfeeding and early relationships for the health and wellbeing of your baby.
- Support you and your baby to initiate a close relationship and feeding soon after birth.
- Enable you to get breastfeeding off to a good start.
- Support you to make informed decisions regarding the introduction of food or fluids other than breastmilk.
- Support parents to have a close and loving relationship with their baby.
Learning outcomes for this session:
- To understand some of the key differences between breastmilk and formula milk.
- To explore personal feelings around feeding method, and provide a forum to discuss preconceived ideas.
- To appreciate the role of oxytocin in brain development and relationship building.
- To consider when hand expressing may be a useful tool.
- To appreciate the physiological and psychological impact of uninterrupted skin-to-skin.
- To understand which sleeping practices aid responsiveness and promote safety.
