Event description
Seminar organised by the History and Policy Trade Union and Employment Forum

About this Event

The conflict between Harold Wilson’s Labour Government and the trade unions over Barbara Castle's 1969 White Paper ‘In Place of Strife’ was one of the pivotal moments of post-war British Industrial Relations. In response to Peter Dorey’s new book on In Place of Strife, this seminar has two parts. In the morning there is a historical reassessment of the political episode. In the afternoon, we consider the implications for current Labour Party policy on trade unions.

Information about the full programme is available through the History and Policy website .

B&B (bed and breakfast) accommodation on-campus is managed by Warwick Conferences . Information about other local hotels and B&Bs is available through the websites of Warwick Accommodation (the university department which maintains student and staff accommodation) and Visit Coventry and Warwickshire as well as the usual range of online booking services.
