This is part of a series of workshops throughout the year. Their overarching themes are those of change and potential. They aim to deliver a moment in your year when you can stop, reflect and contemplate through creative writing how the turn of the seasons affect you emotionally and physically. In each workshop using creative prompts that will move you through the cycle of ‘self, others, world, self’ we will offer the opportunity to explore, reflect and celebrate your responses to the seasons.
Vines, leaves, roots of darkness, growing,
now you are uncurled and cover our eyes
with the edge of winter sky
leaning over us in icy stars.
Annie Finch, “Winter Solstice Chant”
Winter Solstice – are you a hibernator or do you embrace the colder days and longer nights? Is this a time of dynamic change or a hunkering down? However you get through winter, in northern latitudes, the solstice is an important marker of ‘potential’ and a time to revere light. This workshop will give you an opportunity to write about your experience of light and dark, of ‘drawing in’ and of the promise of new beginnings.
