About this event

Join Black British portrait photographer Adina Lawrence for an artist talk and creative workshop exploring her commission Diverse Landscapes, created during the pandemic as part of Urban Wilderness CIC’s Wastelands programme.

Adina will share insights into her creative process and experiences of photographing communities in Stoke-on-Trent, creating portraits that celebrate cultural identity within local green spaces. Her work presents subjects as metaphorical statements, weaving together people, place and story.

Following the talk, Adina will lead a creative portraiture workshop, where participants can experiment with light, composition and storytelling through photography.

About Adina Lawrence

Adina Lawrence is a Black British portrait photographer from Stoke-on-Trent. She describes her approach as “implementing a fantasy-like feel to create flamboyant, conspicuous and stimulating images.”

Her project Diverse Landscapes plays with the tropes of portraiture and fashion, placing subjects outdoors in natural light with minimal processing. Adina’s aim was to “visually communicate the diversity of cultures within our North Staffordshire community in a family-friendly and beautiful way,” proudly representing both people and place.
