About this Event

Create your own artworks as we walk in the footsteps of the artists who were inspired by London’s River Thames. Led by a specialist guide who is both an art historian and artist, this experience will give you the tools you need to try your hand at sketching the Thames and the buildings that line it. We’ll start in Tate Britain, where we’ll closely examine how 19th century artists created poetic, evocative images of the Thames, focusing on their brushwork and colour palette. JMW Turner was fascinated by the moody, industrial aesthetic of the Thames, and often captured its unique atmospheric conditions on canvas. We will also get up close and personal with the Impressionists whose depictions of the Thames focused on the transient effects of light, colour and weather, and moved away from realistic depictions of nature.

Our guide will give you to tools to understand that, yes, you can draw! She’ll help with composition, perspective, light and shade and by the end of the tour you’ll be finding it easy. You’ll leave with your own beautifully created set of postcards to keep or send to friends and family.
