Frequently asked questions

Do I need any prior painting experience to join this course?

Not at all—this course is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced artists looking to refine their skills. Our instructors tailor their guidance to each student’s level.

Do I need to bring my own materials?

No—everything you need is provided, including paints, brushes, canvases, and reference images. You can simply arrive ready to paint.

What is a “master copy” and why is it important?

A master copy is a painting you create by studying and replicating an artwork by an Old Master. It’s a time-tested method for understanding composition, colour, and technique—and a way to internalise centuries of artistic knowledge.

Will I complete my painting during the course?

Yes—by the end of the seven days, you will have a finished master copy to take home, along with a step-by-step process you can apply to future paintings.

Is the course only about copying, or will I learn skills I can use for my own art?

While the focus is on creating a master copy, you’ll also learn universal principles of painting—such as layering, brushwork, and colour mixing—that you can apply to your own original works.

How many students are in each class?

We keep class sizes small to ensure each participant receives plenty of personal attention and feedback from our instructors.
