In the tongues of men and of angels: three forms of beauty in physics
Overview
In the tongues of men and of angels: three forms of beauty in physics
Non-physicists do not often appreciate how central beauty is to physics. Dr Syksy Räsänen will discuss three forms of beauty in physics, at successive layers of abstraction and refinement. One, some physical phenomena look attractive. Two, when we talk about physics in human languages we bring in the beauty of stories. Three, laws of physics have a beauty of their own.
The lecture is aimed for the general audience interested in science. It is organised by the Finnish Science Society in the UK and the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland. The talk is held in person at the Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, London (directions), and it is followed by an informal coffee reception. It will also be possible to watch the talk online.
