Event Details

Ask yourself - when was the last time you simply asked a client or beneficiary to tell their story? How did you capture their story in their own words?

If you are ready to move beyond the written word, audio storytelling can be a personal and powerful way to capture and share the voices of the people you work with.

An intimate experience, audio encourages the listener to focus on what’s being said and imagine themselves in the storyteller’s shoes. It can help your supporters and stakeholders to connect with your charity or community group if they hear first-hand about the challenges, hopes and changes in people’s lives, including the impact of your work.

Less invasive than video, audio offers greater anonymity to sensitive case studies, amplifying diverse voices and experiences. Easier to achieve, audio is also free or cheap to create and share. Not only that but it’s content that’s convenient to consume on the go. After all you can’t watch video in the car!

Is this training for me?

This course is for anyone working in a voluntary or community organisation that is responsible for capturing client or beneficiary testimonials and stories. You will need intermediate computer skills to take part.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to:

  • Recognise the elements of storytelling
  • Select the best tools for audio capture – online hosting, devices, apps and accessories

  • Record audio using simple interviewing techniques

  • Make basic edits to your sound clips

  • Plan how you will use and share your stories

As this course is completely hands on, giving you time to put into practice what you have learned at each stage, we have built in a working lunch. Please bring something to eat, and we will provide tea and coffee!
