On 9-10 May 2022, the European Commission will host a ministerial donor conference (Brussels IV: Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region) to set out Europe’s commitment to the Syrian crisis and determine reconstruction funding for 2022 and 2023. In the margins of this closed conference, the EU invites trusted partners, such as IN2, to present on key areas of focus including stabilisation, humanitarian response, reconstruction and counterterrorism.

IN2 will present insights from our ongoing work in supporting some of the most vulnerable communities in north-east Syria, including more than three years of work with residents of Al-Houl Camp as well as individuals and families who have returned to their places of origin. IN2 will provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with this work, which will then be followed by a Q&A session. The discussion is scheduled for Friday 29th April 2022 @ 1100-1230 CET (1000-1130 UK time).

Our insights will address the following question:

As a donor and delivery community, what more can we do to understand and address both the needs of IDPs living in Al-Houl Camp and the needs of those returning to reintegrate into local communities in north-east Syria?

IN2's presentation will focus on Al-Houl Camp, home to more than 50,000 individuals, the vast majority of whom lived under ISIS (Islamic State) rule prior to 2019. IN2 will provide insights and analysis derived from work within these camps, which leverage a unique combination of remote and face-to-face engagement to build positive change and resilience within these communities as they embark on journeys of reintegration. During the discussion, IN2 will share voices from the ground, including first-hand testimony from camp residents, recent returnees, as well as civil society actors providing much-needed services within the camps. Through this testimony, participants will understand how these stakeholders perceive their aspirations for the future, and the nature of the international support they feel they need to help them survive and thrive.
