Event description

Description

In his lecture Professor Matthew Todd will talk about how:

A Love of Organic Chemistry can take you in Strange Directions

Professor Todd will explain how an organic chemist became preoccupied with secrecy-free drug discovery. He will describe what "open source" means, and how it is being applied to discover medicines for malaria, tuberculosis, a fungal disease called mycetoma and, this year, antibiotics. If this unprecedented approach can be applied to other diseases more generally it would create much-needed new medicines that are inexpensive.

The lecture will be held in the John Hanbury Lecture Theatre at 5.00pm and will be followed by a drinks reception to be held in the Square Lounge.
