Description

Inaugural Lecture by Professor Tom Sperlinger

Reading Seamus Heaney in Barton Hill: Literature, Communities, Universities

Whose voice is heard in higher education? Is the university a space where experience and expertise can meet? And what role does creativity play in day-to-day life and work? This lecture will explore these questions and others, drawing on the story of a reading group at IDEAL, a charity in Barton Hill, discussing Seamus Heaney’s poem ‘Digging’.

Refreshments will be held following the lecture in the Student Common Room space of 11 Woodland Road
