Step into a Sussex adventure this October with Beer, Knobs & Broomsticks. This 5 mile walk blends a quest, traditional craft, some seasonal foraging, and the finest of Sussex ales this side of Pepperinge Eye (the fictional seaside village in the film Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which, incidentally, was filmed in Sussex).
Our journey begins at Langham Brewery. From there, we set off in search of the mysterious Knob. Along the way, and assuming the Knob doesn't transport us all to another world, October’s bounty will hopefully scatter sweet chestnuts in our path. We'll gather these up to later toast over the braziers in Langham's courtyard. Chestnuts make the perfect pairing to a fresh pint or two.
The Broomsticks are more than just a nod to Halloween’s approach, they are real, beautiful tools crafted in the woodlands of the Weald. From midday, Broomsquire Chris Letchford will set up in the courtyard and demonstrate how he makes a classic besom broom. They are perfect for sweeping leaves, decorating your home this Halloween or perhaps… taking flight!
Even if you can’t join the walk, you’re welcome to drop by for the broom-making demonstration, enjoy a drink, and soak up the lively, enchanted atmosphere of Sussex in autumn.
