Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the country. Lack of understanding means many people with the condition experience loneliness and social exclusion. This event is all about learning more about dementia and the small ways we can all help, particularly within the work of the church.
During the session we will cover:
· presentation of the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends Awareness Session, to assist in understand the effects of dementia
· Input and discussion on how churches can play an important role in supporting those living with dementia, and their families, ensuring they can be included in church life.
We will be highlighting examples of best practice, and signposting to a number of resources which are available. We will also be looking at the role of the church in supporting carers and the wider family.
The event is not medical and aims to raise awareness in an informal way as to how we can each play our part in helping those living with dementia to lead full and active lives for as long as possible. It is appropriate for clergy, lay ministers and all involved in welcoming people into our churches.
