What is this about?

Working in inclusion and diversity can often be an isolating experience. The current backlash against the practice, along with an increasingly polarised political backdrop, creates few spaces where complex and problematic issues can be discussed safely. We’ve created a space to do that. We've already held three sessions for a broad range of people from different professional backgrounds. However, this more intimate and regular series is specifically for those who work in the EDI area. We do not want to limit attendance too much because we truly believe in the diversity of thought, but we've heard feedback from previous attendees that they prefer more spaces for individuals facing very specific organisational challenges to enhance sharing and provide them with learning opportunities. We'll continue to hold broader events alongside this online series, but they will occur a little less frequently.

Sessions are as follows:

Thursday 22 May 2025: Handling immigration and xenophobia in the workplace

Thursday 12 June 2025: How do we build active anti-racism in to the culture of organisations?

Wednesday 16 July 2025: Tackling sexism in the workplace in today's world.

Tuesday 12 August 2025: How does politics have a place in the workplace?

Thursday 11 September 2025: Navigating external war and conflict situations in the workplace.

Wednesday 15 October 2025: Understanding trauma for EDI work.

Monday 17 November 2025: What is change management for EDI?

Thursday 4 December 2025: The problem with psychological safety (myths/misconceptions)

What counts as working in EDI?

Some examples are highlighted below, but it's important that if you feel you do not match any of these, yet believe you have some form of EDI responsibility and are committed to contributing to our intense sessions, you do not hesitate to join us.

Anyone with designated EDI responsibilities in an organisation or workplace, officially or as a champion. This might include being an HR leader with EDI responsibilities or being a sponsor or chair of a staff network - and of course, it includes anyone with 'E, D, or I' or related words in their title or job description.

A campaigner or activist who speaks or works with organisations about inequities and advises on positive changes.

An external consultant, trainer, or coach focused on EDI.

An active ally – this can be someone who regularly campaigns, attends, or supports staff networks, creates changes in their organisations to make systems fairer, or vocally advocates for marginalised individuals or groups.

Someone studying EDI.

Who we are

The Third Culture is a company that creates spaces for fearless and human inclusion conversations. It does this through three practice areas of Auditing, Learning and Intentions.

Under the Intentions strand, the Inclusion Conversation Series was launched in April 2024. The series seeks to address the gap in the market for safe, thought-provoking and honest spaces for practitioners to discuss more complex and problematic challenges related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The format

We facilitate a workshop with one goal: ‘furthering the conversation’. This is done with a strictly enforced Chatham House rule.

Historically, our workshop output has been compiled into a report that is available exclusively to attendees for a limited time. This may remain the case for our broader workshops.

For this more intimate series, insights will be continuously gathered and shared back in more bite-sized formats and reports to attendees of the sessions. They will also be used by The Third Culture to share publicly in various ways to foster better cross-collaboration, learning, and understanding, such as social posts, public workshops, talks, and other thought leadership formats.

What else do you need to know?

For this intimate series, we aim to have at least 10 people, but we will proceed when we have a minimum of four participants. Bookings will close five days before an event. If we do not have enough sign-ups for a session, we will provide a full refund at that point. Therefore, please make every effort to attend if you have confirmed or let us know if you need to cancel at least five days in advance.

We offer flexible payment options: you can pay what you can from levels of £15, £20, or £30 if you are paying personally, and £40 for corporate payments + Eventbrite Fees.

Please get in touch with us (using the contact the organiser link) to let us know how we can make the workshop as comfortable for you as possible.

Frequently asked questions

What's involved in the workshop?

People work through questions we have identified as the most helpful for generating solutions in pairs or groups. Prompts are based on the best practices we are currently observing and learning from various influential practitioner sources to help the groups.

What is the Chatham House Rule?

Chatham House Rule ‘When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.’

Why do we use it?

We use the Chatham House rule to ensure confidentiality to build an environment of trust where people can have open and honest discussions that lead to real and meaningful change.

How do you enforce it?

This means that on social media, you are free to post about the event, but you must not post anything that reveals the identity of anyone else in the group—for us, this means photographs/pictures or tagging individuals. Guests who break the rule cannot participate in any future events.

Where will this event be held?

The Intimate Series will be held online via zoom. Details will be provided to you upon booking.
