Speakers: Sian White and Islay Mactaggart

Seminar and Drinks Reception in celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2015

This seminar will be audio recorded

About the Seminar:
Planning for and addressing the needs of people with disabilities within international development can be better achieved if based on a sound understanding of the needs and priorities of disabled people, the barriers they face and their coping strategies. Sian will present findings from a recent qualitative study which explored these challenges among disabled people in Malawi in relation to WASH. Islay will present quantitative findings on the same topic from Malawi, Bangladesh, Cameroon and India.

About the Speakers:
Sian White is a public health researcher within the Environmental Health Group at LSHTM. Sian predominantly works on qualitative research projects in the area of behaviour change, hygiene, disability issues, nutrition and trachoma prevention.

Islay Mactaggart is a research fellow in disability and global health at the International Centre for Evidence in Disability at LSHTM. Islay’s work focuses on quantitative measures of disability and documenting the impact of disability on individuals’ lives.

External visitors should sign in at reception on arrival, and a member from the Disability Centre will be waiting in the foyer to accompany you to the theatre. If you have any access needs that we can assist with, please contact us.
