Inclusive Education for Autistic Children and Young People
Event Information
Description
ARGH (Autism Rights Group Highland ) and Dr Rebecca Wood of King’s College London invite you to attend an event devoted to improving understanding on how to successfully include autistic children and young people in educational settings
Dr Rebecca Wood, ESRC postdoctoral Fellow at King's College London, will be talking about her recent research into the education and inclusion of autistic children in schools. A former teacher and autism education practitioner, as well as having been part of a multi-disciplinary team in the assessment and diagnosis of autism, Rebecca has been able to find important explanations for the difficulties autistic children currently face in school. Focusing on communication and the learning styles of autistic children and young people in particular, Rebecca will provide realistic and workable solutions to the problems autistic children experience in the education system, which would make school life easier and more enjoyable not only for them, but for school staff too. Dr Rebecca Wood's research can be found here: http://me2.do/Fmb7lx3c
Other speakers include: Sean Gallagher and Alan Morrison, Highland teacher.
.
This event will be of interest to school staff, parents, local authority and social care practitioners, charity workers, medical practitioners, students, autism and SEND practitioners and parents.
Rebecca's book 'Inclusive Education for Autistic Children: Helping Children to Learn and Flourish in the Classroom' will be published in August by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. She is funded to attend this event by the ESRC. To pre-order see here: https://goo.gl/G8noCQ
