Inclusive SEND learn to ride a bike or trike for any age

Thanks to funding from Sunderland City Council’s Go Smarter Go Active programme, Funded by UK Govenment. Gateway Wheelers is offering FREE 1-to-1 bike or trike cycling sessions at our safe, traffic-free track in Houghton Rectory Park.

Whether you’re taking your first pedal strokes, building confidence, or learning on a bike or trike, our friendly, qualified coaches will help you progress at your own pace.

What we offer:

  • Learn 2 Ride for beginners (children, teens & adults)
  • Confidence building for returning riders
  • Suitable for bikes, trikes, cycles.
  • Safe, welcoming environment with no pressure
  • Qualified coaches with years of experience
  • Flexible weekday & weekend availability

Important:

  • Cycles & helmets are available for confidence building sessions
  • If you want to learn to ride a two-wheeled bike, for the best results if possible bring your own bike.

We are the North Easts cycling community group for anyone who needs to use an adapted bike due to having a disability. This can include but not limited to: - learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, balance problems, eyesight problems, brain injuries, strokes, complex health needs etc.

Based in Houghton Rectory Park (DH4 4BB) Houghton -le-Spring we cycle around the traffic free track on Houghton Rectory Playing Field, 6 times around equals a mile.

We cycle on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays and 1 Sunday a month. Our cycling sessions last about an hour.

Our Darlington base is located at Eastbourne Sports Complex, DH11LJ, where we cycle 1 Sunday a month.

We have a wide range of adapted bikes available for all ages including go-karts, trikes, bucket seat bike, wheelchair bike, tandem, KMC trikes and more.
