Description

Inclusive learning and teaching: Lessons from the last two decades

One day conference

Research for Equitable Access and Learning REAL) Centre, University of Cambridge; in association with BAICE

Wednesday 28 June, 9.00 - 17.00

Followed by drinks reception

For the first time, global goals focus on raising learning in ways that ensures no one is left behind. This focus recognises the central role of teachers in achieving education goals. The event will bring together researchers, policymakers and practitioners concerned with supporting teachers in raising learning outcomes for children from diverse backgrounds within their classrooms. Particular attention will be given to raising learning outcomes for children from poor households, girls, and children with disabilities. It will learn from research and initiatives over the past two decades to provide lessons for the coming decades in ways that will inform the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The focus will primarily be on countries in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, which are furthest from achieving the goals.

The event will begin with a keynote address by Ziauddin Yousafzai, Advisor to the UN Special Envoy for Global Education, father of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai and co-founder of the Malala Fund. This will be followed by an opening panel with Ziauddin and three experts speaking for 10-15 minutes each followed by discussion to set the debate. Three subsequent panels will comprise three panellists speaking for 10-15 minutes each followed by discussion, addressing issues of:

  • Assessing learning for inclusion.

  • Inclusive learning and teaching: Inside the classroom.

  • Assessing teacher quality for inclusion.

The event is in association with the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE), which is providing generous support to the conference.
