About this Event

Join Our Greater Manchester Living Library Today

We look forward to welcoming leaders and staff from across all public sector organisations, higher education and third sector to join us for the launch of the Greater Manchester Inclusive Lives Matter - Living Library Programme.

The day is part of a series of events celebrating Black History Month and introducing a number of transformation programmes aimed at radically transforming the experiences of Public & Third Sector staff from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity backgrounds across Greater Manchester.

We have planned a day focussed on lived experience and hearing about how the power of stories can and has had an impact across organisations of any size, shape or sector.

The day will start with a senior leader from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (TBC) setting out our vision as a region to prioritise and transform the experiences of Staff from BAME communities across all our workplaces.

The day will continue hearing from third sector leaders about the impact racial inequalities have on our diverse communities and how vital it is we ensure actions speak louder than just our words.

We are then excited to be joined by the National Equality & Diversity Lead for Workforce at the Care Quality Commission and award winning leadership Consultant Safina Nadeem. During her session Safina will focus on the power of Staff Networks in creating the energy and drive for change. We will then be asking Safina to chair a panel of representatives from across a number of BAME staff networks, where we hope to hear first hand the value lived experience can bring to organisations partiularly when it comes to delivering inclusion.

Some exciting work on living libraries has already taken place across a number of organisations in the region and we are lucky enough to be being joined by a representative from the University of Salford to hear what a succesful living library programme can look like.

In the afternoon we will be joined by leaders from across the Police, Fire, NHS and Local Authorities to hear what impact using and hearing from lived experience has had across their own organisations with an expert panel for us to engage with.

Finally we will be helping you shape your experiences into a story that can be shared and look at how we amplify voices across our system.

Registration will be from 9.15am in the Coal Store at the People's History Museum in Manchester. There will be lunch and refreshments provided as well as entertainment as part of our Black History Month Celebrations.
