Inclusivity is a priority for South Gloucestershire Council, and we pride ourselves on working with partners who share our values.
As part of our current SEND Short Breaks action plan, we want to help reduce the barriers some children with SEND and their families face when accessing universal youth activities, which is why we are commissioning inclusivity training.
The training will be provided by WECIL who are experts in this field. The CPD accredited training session will be delivered by a trainer with lived experienced. His bio can be found below. They will work with you to develop an inclusivity action plan for your setting. You will receive a certificate for attending and we will update your record on the council’s local offer/ directory of services to reflect your attendence.
Chris Selway, Trainer
"I am a highly experienced trainer and facilitator. I was a teacher for over twenty years, initially teaching English as a second language and then gained Qualified Teacher Status and spent the next twenty years 'at the chalkface'. I spent the last three years of my work in state education as a lead teacher for South Gloucestershire and led workshops at conferences and group meetings.
After retiring from teaching I moved to the charity sector. As part of my work I supported the NHS with CPD accredited training in spinal cord injury awareness.
I have been working with WECIL since the summer of 2023 and I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of helping people to shift their mindset about disability through our interactive training sessions.
I am passionate about raising awareness of the unnecessary barriers that disable people and am an advocate for social justice and human rights."
When registering, please provide the correct names and email addresses for attendees. In doing so, you are consenting to your email address being shared with WECIL so that they can email you your certificate. They will also send some pre-training questions prior to the event to see how you feel about your setting's current level of inclusivity.
