About this event

A session delivered by Clean Slate Training and Employment for the Money Guiders Wales Network.

Increasingly, despite money guiders supporting their clients to maximise income and reduce outgoings, budgets are frequently still showing a negative balance, and work (for those who are able) is the only way out of this situation.

Aimed at all non-employment specialist frontline staff, this webinar will provide ideas for frontline practitioners in how to start the conversation about work, and how to support them to make those first steps.

About this session

Presented by Jeff Mitchell, the Founder of Clean Slate, with opportunities for questions and discussion, this interactive webinar will explore the world of work, taking a different approach for those who are long term unemployed. We will explore overcoming perceived barriers to employment, how to help improve confidence and how to help those we support identify skills, passions and opportunities (even without a current CV). We will look at how work can affect UC claims, the benefits of work (not just the extra money) and 5 top tips on how to break the 'no job, no money' cycle.

This webinar is particularly relevant for those practitioners supporting people whose needs are not met by mainstream employment provision, or who may need additional support.

The Money Guiders Programme

Money Guiders is a programme run by MaPS, which seeks to help money guidance practitioners improve their knowledge, skills and confidence. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.

Before attending the session, you could spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.

  • How do you spot potential problems?
  • How can you start conversations about money in a sensitive way and at the appropriate time?
  • How do you maintain good boundaries in your role as a money guidance practitioner within your main area of work?
