Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner - Launch of Annual Report 2021-2022
About this event
The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Dame Sara Thornton, has a UK-wide remit to encourage good practice in the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of slavery and human trafficking offences and the identification of victims.
The Commissioner is accountable through her strategic plan and annual reports, which are laid before Parliament by the Secretary of State. The Commissioner's Annual Report 2021-2022 is scheduled to be laid on or before 27 April 2022.
At this launch event Dame Sara will outline her work during the final year of her tenure to achieve the objectives as set out in her Strategic Plan 2019-2021, and reflect on her priorities in the areas of: improving victim care and support; supporting law enforcement and prosecutions; focusing on prevention; and getting value from research and innovation. This will be followed by a panel discussion.
The Rt Rev Dr Alastair Redfern (Chair of the IASC Advisory Panel) will chair the event with former Prime Minister The Rt Hon Theresa May MP and Professor Zoe Trodd (Director of the Rights Lab at the University of Nottingham) remarking on the annual report.
This event will take place on Zoom and with limited in person attendance. The event will be recorded. Further details will be shared with registered attendees.
