Event description

Description

If you have ever wanted to dye your own clothes or materials, now is the chance to give it a go. Artist Katherine May will be leading a hands-on workshop where you can discover the natural indigo dyeing process and try it out yourself to bring new life to an old favourite garment of your own. As Katherine guides you through the process of using indigo, you will understand the magic behind this ancient technique, which transforms cloth from white, to green, to blue, right before your eyes.

For this workshop, please bring one light coloured garment made from cotton/wool/silk or linen that you want to transform to blue! Top tip - white garments will give the best results. Please be aware that dye can splash during the workshop so please wear suitable clothing and shoes or bring an apron.

Katherine May works as an artist, designer and researcher examining the life of textiles and clothes through research and making. Her workshops are designed to explore the relationships between textiles, social history and the natural environment and to foster a sense of well-being. Katherine also works as a Lecturer on the MA Fashion course at Goldsmiths University and is an Associate Lecturer on the MA Textiles course at Chelsea Art College.

Please note that refunds or changes to ticket date are available up to 7 days before the event date.
