About this course

Within this course you create your own printed fabrics to develop into patchwork. So, if you love fabrics, and want to try Patchwork; we mainly look at English Pattern Piecing (EPP). Over the course you gain the confidence to create your own printed fabric from traditional craved blocks from Indian. We also look at how to build patterns with patchwork.

Learners are required to provide their own substance to print onto this can be fabric such as cotton, and sewing kit including sewing threads – additional items will be discussed in session one.

What will be covered on the course?

Gain an understanding of the equipment - Know how to print with wooden blocks

Knowledge of Colour theory

Design development and Structure Patterns

Gain some understanding of artist and their use of patterns

Develop Stitching skills

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Be able to understand the process how the printing blocks are made.

Be able to create prints onto fabric.

Understand Pattern theory and descriptive some of the shapes able to be used in EPP.

Be able to create patterns with patchwork shapes.

Develop/improve their eye and hand coordination.

Show an ability of reflecting on your learning.

Also

Analyse the benefits of creative activities to improved mental health

Resources required:

Fabric – this can be anything such as old bed linen, something you want to stitch onto

Sewing kit, threads into pins
