UK Business Angels Association, in partnership with The Mayor of London, Indielab and Creative Skillset will host a presentation of 8 UK Award winning, fast growth TV content producers at City Hall.

The UK is now the second largest exporter of TV content in the world, with broadcasters increasingly turning to the smaller £5m production companies to identify innovative, new and distinctive content to help them chase ratings.

The event will offer investors the opportunity to see presentations from the selected group of entrepreneurs, meet the companies and leading broadcast industry representatives over drinks and networking.

This Indielab Investor Showcase event is open to investors, funds & groups: Angel investors, Syndicates and Networks, individual self-certified, high net worth or sophisticated investors, Fund managers and Crowdfund managers.

Company 1

Previously voted as the fastest growing indie in the UK, this business is led by the ex-head of the BBC’s Additional Programme Unit, who pioneered the first ‘companion shows’, including the BBC’s top rated Doctor Who Confidential. The team are seeking funding to support their expansion in this niche sector, with commissions already secured for Sherlock, Luther, Merlin, Doctor Who, Call the Midwife and Poldark.

Company 2

One of the leading TV production companies for car-related programming, including the global hit Wheeler Dealers which reached over 200 million people worldwide. With eight new concepts currently under consideration by six broadcasters, the team are now looking to expand their operations to help deliver on their growing sales pipeline.

Company 3

The demand for High-end TV production has doubled in recent years, with broadcasters actively seeking new English-speaking content to satisfy increasing demand. Formed in 2009 by the Bafta and Emmy winning producers behind The Deep Blue Sea and 21 other feature films, this team is now expanding into this lucrative segment, bringing feature film standards to TV drama production.

Company 4

A new TV company producing multi-award nominated programmes for major UK and international broadcasters. Their shows have been screened in Parliament, been a top global trend on Twitter, and No. 1 on BBC iPlayer. Uniquely, the team have their own in-house distribution channels, significantly improving their margins. Funding is sought to scale up operations and take advantage of the momentum built up from a run of successful programmes.

Founded in January 2016, this company have found a niche in developing male-skew programmes - Television with wide appeal to male audiences whilst still attracting female viewers. The team have already secured their first commission - Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railway Journeys for Channel 5, bringing a guaranteed first year turnover of 1.1 million, with net profit (EBITDA) forecast at 11.4%. Funding is sought to expand on this success.

Company 6

A Bafta winning, IP creator and producer of comedy, entertainment and factual programming. Hit shows include BBC quiz Hive Minds with Fiona Bruce, CBBC’s Friday Download and C4’s King of with Claudia Winkleman. With several returning series, the team want to build on their existing relations with broadcasters by expanding the development team to meet a growing and urgent demand both in the UK and international markets.

Company 7

An award-winning production company delivering innovative, authentic and intriguing content for TV, online and film. The team are in funded development with Channel 4 for a documentary with BAFTA award-winning actor, Adam Deacon about his mental health and with Sky Drama for two scripts. Funding is sought to support the business through its early growth phase.
