Event description

Description

The first in a series of two-day Indigo dyeing workshops at Blackhorse Lane Ateliers.

Over the course of a weekend, you will learn various traditional Shibori stitching techniques to create your own beautiful Indigo dyed textile pieces.

We will be based in Blackhorse Lane Atelier workshop during the mornings, and relocating to the Indigo allotment (10 mins away) in the afternoon to do the dyeing.

After two days you will leave with a range of samples which you can use in your own personal sewing projects. I will give you the pattern to create a basic workshop apron. You will also learn about the unique history, myth and magic of Indigo in Japan.

This is a hand-stitch based course, that will leave you feeling renewed and inspired after the two days.

Liza Mackenzie studied Indigo, known as Aizome, under a Master Craftsman whilst living in Japan for four years. She is a textile designer and researcher with a specialism in Japanese craft textiles and sustainable dyes.

Nearest tube station is Blackhorse Road (Victoria Line), twenty minutes from Oxford Circus. Blackhorse Lane Atelier is a five minute walk from the station.
