Description

Individualised Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) for carers

We are offering two individualised CST workshops for the carers of those with a dementia.

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy is a non-pharmacological intervention for those with a dementia. It aims to assist people to continue to acquire knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and stimulation of the senses. CST has been shown to maintain:

  • Quality of life
  • — Cognition
  • — Memory
  • — Mood
  • — Language function

We have found it most helpful in increasing confidence, motivation, and enhancing communication and social skills in those with a dementia.

These outcomes can be maintained by taking part in weekly CST sessions that can be facilitated by carers at home. Hence I-CST has been developed to teach carers and loved ones how to best support this process at home. These workshops are designed to:

  • Provide a brief introduction to CST
  • Consider why its helpful
  • Give you a chance to try out some of the exercises in an informal environment
  • Consider the barriers to using it at home
  • Ask questions and explore options

Location: Please meet at the University stand (located on the ground floor, outside Primark), ten minutes before your session begins.
