Description

IMPORTANT: If you buy a ticket, you MUST bring it with you (printout or on phone) as reception won't have access to your names. Also, this session is only for people aged 18 or over and will not provide paddling tuition, rather it will show you how to use the equipment safely and give you some paddling tips. The main session will be in kayaks, but we have SUPs which you could use afterwards.

The Castle Canoe Club is a friendly volunteer-run members' community group who are passionate about paddlesports whether it’s in a kayak, canoe or paddleboard! We offer a range of activities including canoe polo, sea kayaking, slalom or just a floating chit chat! We offer induction sessions for anyone interested in learning to paddle with us. No prior experience necessary. The induction allows you to try paddle sports before deciding whether or not to buy full membership.

What you get: Approximately an hour of induction and paddling after which you can stay until the end of the session 1pm. You also get a further two paddling sessions (to be used within one month) for no extra fee before deciding whether to officially join the Castle Canoe Club.

What happens: Our team of volunteers will introduce you to the club and site by showing you the basics of paddling whilst enjoying the tranquill west reservoir. You will be shown how to safely get in and out of your boat and the paddle strokes required you get your boat moving in the right direction. The induction session formally lasts for ~1 hour but you’re welcome to stay on the water until the end of the paddle session (1pm). You can also join us for tea and cake in the West Reservoir café.

When: Please come by 10:15am at the latest. It would help us if you could print, fill in and bring along this form: http://www.castlecanoeclub.co.uk/CCCInductionForm2019.pdf

What to Wear: Suitable footwear (that stay on your feet... so no flip flops) that you don’t mind getting wet, sports wear (avoid cotton, but nylon, polyester or specific watersports clothing is fine), a fleece when it’s cold, sun cream, hat and sunglasses when it’s sunny. There are showers and changing rooms on site so bring a towel and dry clothes.

Afterwards: Join us again for a further two sessions (to be used within one month) for no extra fee before deciding whether to officially join the Castle Canoe Club. In non-induction weeks, we'll usually have group activities for those who meet at 10:30 at the slipway... or feel free to just go around the reservoir on your own and chat to the people who pass.
