Event description

We are pleased to be hosting our first Industrial Challenge Exploration & Project Scoping Workshop in 2019.

The event is an integral part of a series of events planned in 2019 to create working groups and scope out projects that can address challenges faced by industry.

Activity to-date

On 12th March, we held a Challenge Scoping Workshop for large organisations to come together and define common areas of interest for the following technologies:

  • Sensing, Measurement and IoT

  • Communications

  • Position, Navigation & Timing

  • Energy & Power Management

  • Advanced Manufacturing & Materials

Industry members worked together to scope out and refine challenges that are common to a number of organisations.

The Challenge Shortlist

The following challenges have been selected based on the market opportunity and the feasibility:

  • Resilient & secure network for all data, customers and operational teams to stay connected for better service for all

  • Real-time and predictive data analytics to increase productivity in the UK

  • Understanding energy usage at micro- and macro-scale

The aim of the workshop on 4th July is to bring together the right capabilities and form collaborative working groups that can scope out projects to address the above challenges.

The day will include interactive and facilitated roundtable discussions, designed to address key questions towards developing the outline of collaborative projects that can be taken forward.

A more detailed agenda will be available nearer the event.

Welsh Government offers a range of support to encourage R&D and innovation. R&D projects that develop from these activities will be considered for eligibility for funding through SMARTCymru. Further details will be provided at the workshop.

Who should attend

We welcome registrations from organisations matching the following capabilities:

  • Sensors and IoT, device specialists (design, fabrication, packaging)

  • Data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning

  • Platform developers

  • Design thinking, prototyping

  • Resilient and secure communications

  • Power management and energy systems (generation/storage)

Benefits of attending

  • Focused networking around a particular challenge with other experts working across different areas of the supply chain

  • Understanding barriers and opportunities in different parts of the supply chain through in depth discussions

  • Potentially embedding your organisation’s capabilities into a project with good market opportunity

Registering your interest to attend

Please note that spaces are limited at this workshop to allow for in-depth technical discussions between working groups. The registration process allows organisations to indicate their interest in attending the workshop and is not a confirmation of registration for the workshop. All entries will be assessed against the capability categories listed above and a separate email will be sent by the organisers to confirm whether the registration has been accepted. We thank you in advance for your understanding.

We will use the information you supply to determine whether the capability of your organisation is relevant to the challenge themes and to contact you regarding the workshop and future related activities.
