Throughout May, Wildscreen are excited to launch Emerging Talent month! As part of this, we have created a series of webinars focused on supporting, engaging and celebrating emerging talent within the natural world filmmaking and storytelling industry.
Our final May emerging talent focused webinar we will be joined by Ben Cherry. With a zoology background as well as being an award winning photographer and camera op, Ben uses his skills alongside social media development, and writing to create engaging content.
His aim is to work with organisations to develop communication methods to reach wider audiences, to inform, inspire and generate action.
He will give a valuable insight into the world of camera assisting and operating and shares his top tips if you’re interested in pursuing a career in this part of the natural history filmmaking industry.

Our Speaker
Ben Cherry
Ben Cherry is a natural history specialising Director of Photography. His experience includes long term character led sequences in remote environments, studio macro sets, motion control systems, observational documentary filming, among other techniques like gimbal, drone etc.
Starting out in photography after studying Zoology at university, Ben focused on environmental photojournalism and was published internationally as well as working with various camera brands and running workshops for the Royal Photographic Society. Ben shifted to primarily film based work in 2017, initially working with NGOs and digital projects to then becoming the Director of Photography for the BBC A Wild Year Series, Fens episode in 2018. From human focused conversation projects to following wildlife characters in remote locations for months on end, Ben enjoys working on a variety of productions.
Along this journey Ben has assisted on some projects as well as filming corporate and commercial projects, even music videos! Photography is still a passion, as is tour leading for photography focused holidays and the occasional workshop and tutorial. Ben was recently a mentor on the Wildscreen Mentorship Program.
Lara Paxton - Host
Lara graduated with a degree in Media Communication and Cultural Studies from Bath Spa University. From here her love of travel took over, and she worked in various roles within the tourism industry, including time spent working in Australia, Spain, UK, New Zealand and Canada. She also travelled the world, visiting over 80 countries and all 7 continents.
Her passion for Wildlife and photography was always at the forefront of her travels and it was this that led her to her role at Wildscreen, which she joined in 2021, as the Wildscreen Network Manager. She is now working with freelancers and production companies, and helping to grown and shape the worlds best natural world storytelling network community across the globe.
