The Meaningful Microbiome

Through recent advances in our technological capabilities it is becoming increasingly clear that our microbiome can make significant contributions to the health of their host organism. However, issues relating to limitations associated with these technologies, and over-interpretation of correlative studies, have led to some high-profile controversies. In this symposium we will discuss these issues and present some good-practice guidelines for undertaking such a study. We will also reflect on some recent studies that have enhanced our understanding of the role the microbiome makes to the development of disease.
