One of the greatest privileges of being a researcher is the potential to positively influence the way the world works but it can be difficult to engage the policy community to generate impacts from your research. This session will showcase how to get your research into policy, inspired by research Colleagues sharing their experiences.

Each panelist will outline how their work has influenced policy, parliament, Senedd etc. and share best practice advice on making those connections based on their experiences. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask pre-submitted questions to the panel which will be discussed on the day.

The session will be a good opportunity to develop networks and learn from peers.

James has more than fifteen years' experience of conducting evaluations on local government policy for government.

Dr Sophie Hallett, Senior Lecturer at the School of Social Sciences

Sophie is a social policy academic, her specialist field is youth, young people and child sexual exploitation, and she is committed to informing policy and practice in this area.

Professor Simon C Moore , Theme lead for Applied Clinical Research and Public Health, Professor of Public Health Research, Co-Director of Crime and Security Research Institute and Director of Alcohol & Violence Research Group

The aim of Simon’s research is to translate basic-level, fundamental, science and apply it to the real world in order to improve community safety and the health of our communities.

Prof. Katherine Shelton, School of Psychology

Katherine’s research is primarily concerned with identifying and understanding the psychological and social needs of vulnerable children and young people, particularly those who experience social exclusion.

Professor Nick Pidgeon, Professor of Environmental Psychology, Director of the Understanding Risk Research Group

Nick’s research spans a number of broad topics under the headings of: Risk Perception and Communication; the Environment; Science, Technology and Public Policy; and Sustainability.

Professor Jonathan Shepherd, Emeritus Professor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Crime and Security Research Institute

Jonathan’s research on clinical decisions, community violence and the evidence ecosystem has made many contributions to clinical and public policy and to legislation.

Liana specialises in research in two fields of global importance and impact: Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles integration into electricity and transport systems. Her research expertise is excellently aligned with the current Government’s policies and initiatives.
