Info Wars

We all experience greenwashing by corporations, lobbyists and their politicians. We also know that social media algorithms distort the facts. But normalising these processes as legitimate will reduce society's ability to manage its affairs appropriately.

This forthcoming evening at the Brookmill promises to challenge these norms in a way that is pleasant, accessible and non-technical.

But these are stupendous and difficult issues. If the President of the most powerful nation unashamedly ignores facts and scientific evidence, then overrides international laws how might this affect the political world order? What if these attitudes were to percolate down and contaminate the local relationships between ordinary people?

We are also in a murky era of deep fakes and AI-driven warfare. Will this make the very concept of misinformation obsolete? And what could local communities do about it?

Our three experts will guide us through some of these issues.

Frequently asked questions

Will non-experts understand it?

We are privileged to have three experts with backgrounds in journalism, so they are fully accustomed to making difficult concepts clear to untrained audiences.

How do these issues affect me?

A huge majority of scientists agree that our future survival crucially depends on knowing how to cope with the climate changes that current habits and lifestyles are causing. If vested interests are shielding ordinary citizens from important truths, then our capacity to survive is being compromised.
