Event description
Is proportional representation at least a partial way to end the dangerous democratic deficit we face?

About this Event

GET PR DONE! invites you to a discussion on this topic with a prominent Labour MP.

Our country is in the midst of a raging pandemic that’s been badly administered. The UK government and our main political parties are in turmoil. We are on the cusp of no-deal Brexit. No wonder some say our politics are broken. But what about us, the voters?

As Norwich South Labour MP Clive Lewis regularly explains, bringing in a proportional representation (PR) voting system is “not a silver bullet”. But what PR does is give power to the voters, and more and more people want to find out how PR works, why it is preferable to the existing old-fashioned system, and how to campaign to implement PR here for Westminster elections. After all, more than 85 counties already use some form of PR. As does Scotland for its Holyrood elections.

So we are pleased that Clive has accepted the invitation of GET PR DONE! (GPRD!) to have an informal ZOOM chat on his favourite subject (and our favourite as well!): “HOW TO GET LABOUR TO SUPPORT PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION” .

Back in June 2020, Clive first chatted with us on ZOOM about PR. The event went down very well. As our Facebook group now has more than tripled in size, we thought it made sense to invite him again. And also to invite in anyone else to this informal session who wants to get PR done, and who has questions about how we might get there, or how such a fairer voting system might work.

It is fair to say that Clive is the 'unofficial leader' of the pro-PR movement in the Labour Party; it will be a treat to have a return visit.

GPRD! is a cross-party/ no party grass roots campaign group that aims to win over Labour to support PR, an important step on the road to achieving PR. We launched in January 2020.
