The impact of AI on content creation and consumption

Professor Luciano Floridi will explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI (GenAI), in the creation, sharing, and consumption of content across various formats, including text, images, audio, and video. He will address key challenges such as intellectual property rights, copyright issues related to training data, plagiarism, and the reliability of AI-generated material.

GenAI systems, described as "agency without Intelligence," can produce outputs indistinguishable from human-created content, despite lacking understanding or consciousness. The talk argues that to use these systems effectively, we must rethink processes and environments to harness their potential.

The talk concludes by discussing the emergence of personalised content, referred to as "MYC" (My Content), that could transform cultural production. If managed responsibly, this shift could reduce consumerism, enhance cultural diversity, promote localised creativity, and challenge monopolies over semantic capital, while also democratising content production.

Speaker bio

Luciano Floridi is the Professor and Founding Director of the Digital Ethics Center Yale University and Professor of Sociology of Culture and Communication at Bologna University. He is one of the most authoritative voices of contemporary philosophy, the founder of the philosophy of information, and one of the major interpreters of the digital revolution. His more than 300 works about the philosophy of information, digital ethics, the ethics of AI, and the philosophy of technology have been translated into many languages.

His most recent books are The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (OUP, 2023) and The Green and The Blue – Naive Ideas to Improve Politics in the Digital Age (Wiley, 2023). Among his many awards, in 2022 he was made Knight of the Grand Cross OMRI for his foundational work in philosophy.
