About this Event

Our Leadership Programme is designed for young people, aged 18-25, to develop their leadership skills and passion for social action! Our Environmental Leadership Programme is designed for young people, aged 18-24, who are keen to develop their passion for environmental leadership and social action. This event is an opportunity for us to share information with you about our amazing Environmental Leadership Programme and Leadership Programme so you can decide if they are right for you. We also want to get to know you, your interests and aspirations. We will be taking notes throughout the evening and scoring you based on how you work as a team, listen to others and contribute to discussions. This is so we can see how you could benefit from the programme.

From the evening you can expect:

  • To meet previous participants and hear first-hand all the incredible opportunities they've had.
  • Mini-campaigning workshops to give you a taste of what it's like to manage your own social action campaign.
  • A breakdown of the sessions included in our 7 month programme so you can feel fully prepared for what's in store. This includes our coaching and mentoring offer.
  • Networking - there will be UpRising staff, previous participants, programme speakers and mentors on hand to chat to as well as other prospective UpRisers.
  • 1-1 discussion with an UpRising staff member or previous participant to answer specific questions and opinions of the programme.
  • Light refreshments will be provided.

What are our Programmes?

The 7 month programme has sessions every other Tuesday 6-9pm, in different locations across Greater Manchester starting 14th January 2020. As a participant, you have opportunities to develop confidence; knowledge; skills and networks. You will be supported to work as a team developing a social action campaign on an issue you care about in your community, last year created campaigns tackling issues including climate change, Widening participation, bird & bee biodiversity and fast fashion! The experiences will be useful in your personal life and in applications for jobs, training or university.

Key highlights of the programme (according to this years participants):

“Meeting interesting people from lots of different industries and hearing about their career paths and the different ways they engage in sustainability” - Participant, 2019

“Visiting UK Parliament and hearing Rushanara Ali speak about her involvement co-founding the charity” - Georgia, 2019

Dragons Den’ Pitching “really great learning moment. At the start I was nervous, but I was glad that I got my message across and the feedback for the pitch was also positive which now makes me feel a lot confident and happier in my ability to pitch.” - Muzamil 2019

“Building skills in lots of new things...from Canva and social media to setting up effective surveys! I'll be able to utilise my experience for future campaigns (I hope!) I feel empowered to do more in my community in the future to raise awareness of issues I care about”. - Amy 2019
